Cases of fever, coughing and other respiratory symptoms have increased in Azerbaijan with the arrival of cooler weather, raising public concerns about whether a new virus is circulating.
Health specialists say sudden temperature changes and increased crowding in enclosed spaces are accelerating the spread of seasonal respiratory infections. Patients have reported high fever, fatigue, body aches, sore throat, coughing and runny nose.
Doctors say some infections appear to be causing more severe symptoms this season. At the same time, gastrointestinal viruses that continued circulating through the summer remain widespread.
These infections may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain, sometimes alongside respiratory symptoms. Such cases are reported particularly frequently among children, and doctors advise parents not to delay seeking medical care.
However, Azerbaijan’s Health Ministry and the Republican Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology said no sharp rise in viral infections has been recorded nationwide and that the epidemiological situation remains under control. Authorities have also not identified a dominant influenza strain.
Residents are advised to receive seasonal flu vaccinations, ventilate enclosed spaces regularly and avoid going to work or school while experiencing symptoms.
