Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic held a phone call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on April 19, discussing bilateral ties, economic cooperation, and upcoming joint initiatives between the two countries.
According to Azerbaijan’s presidential press service, the two leaders recalled Aliyev’s official visit to Serbia in February and the first meeting of the Azerbaijan-Serbia Strategic Partnership Council, which was held with the participation of both presidents. They noted the importance of the documents signed during that visit for strengthening cooperation between Baku and Belgrade.
During the conversation, Aliyev and Vucic discussed plans to deepen economic ties, expand cooperation in energy and investment, and move forward with new joint projects seen as strategically important for both countries.
Vucic also thanked Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s continued support for Serbia and said Belgrade remains committed to developing relations with Azerbaijan on the basis of friendship, mutual respect, and shared economic interests.
The Serbian president confirmed that he will take part in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum, which is scheduled to be held in Baku next month.
The two sides also welcomed the planned launch of direct Air Serbia flights on the Belgrade-Baku route starting May 3, describing it as an important step toward bringing the two countries closer and supporting economic ties, including tourism.
Aliyev and Vucic also exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East and stressed that restoring peace and stability remains essential for the region’s security and development.
