Users of rental electric bicycles in Baku may face additional charges if they fail to end their trip at an authorized parking location.
The bicycles can be unlocked by downloading the operator’s mobile app, registering an account and scanning a QR code. They do not have physical locks because access and billing are managed digitally through the app.
Fatima Goychali, a representative of the e-bike operator, said there is no limit on the distance or duration of a ride. Customers are charged by the minute and must have sufficient funds available on the bank card linked to their account.
When a payment cannot be processed, the user receives a notification through the app. The system attempts to collect the payment again every five minutes, giving the customer time to add funds and continue the ride.
If the balance is not replenished, the bicycle’s electric assistance may stop working. The user can still pedal it as a regular bicycle and return it to an approved parking zone.
Customers were warned not to leave bicycles on roadsides or in other unauthorized locations. If an e-bike is abandoned outside a designated area, company employees may take 30 to 40 minutes to collect it.
During that time, the trip may remain active and additional charges can continue accumulating on the user’s account.
The operator currently has more than 550 designated parking locations across Baku. The sites are displayed on a map inside the app, allowing users to plan their route and identify a parking zone before beginning a ride.
According to the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency, 684,081 people used electric bicycles between January and May 2026. The figure was about 1.2 times higher than during the same period in 2025.
Electric bicycles have become increasingly popular in the capital, particularly among younger residents and commuters seeking to avoid traffic congestion.
