Specially equipped medical motorcycles will soon respond to emergency calls in Baku, allowing paramedics to bypass traffic congestion and reach patients more quickly.
Ten specially trained paramedics will join the program during its initial stage. Each will serve as both a medical professional and a motorcycle rider.
The motorcycle units are intended for emergencies on congested roads, narrow streets and other locations that conventional ambulances may struggle to reach quickly.
“We will be able to reach calls sooner, move through traffic more easily and provide first aid to an injured person without losing critical time,” one of the paramedics said.
The motorcycles carry defibrillators, oxygen cylinders, first-aid kits and other essential medical equipment, according to Bahadir Rzayev, deputy executive director of Azerbaijan’s Management Union of Medical Territorial Units, known as TƏBİB.
The paramedics will provide emergency treatment and stabilize patients until a regular ambulance arrives. Fully equipped ambulance crews and intensive care vehicles will still be dispatched whenever necessary.
During the first stage, the motorcycle units are expected to operate primarily on roads leading to Baku’s suburban settlements, where congestion can significantly delay emergency vehicles.
The service could later be expanded to heavily congested areas in central Baku. TƏBİB is also considering introducing medical motorcycles in other regions of Azerbaijan.
Officials expect the new units to reduce emergency response times and improve patients’ chances of survival in critical situations.
