Medical specialists in Azerbaijan are reporting an increase in viral respiratory infections amid cold seasonal weather, with some patients experiencing prolonged illness and recurring symptoms.
Doctors say multiple circulating influenza strains, along with continued presence of COVID-19-related infections, are contributing to a mixed epidemiological situation. Most cases involve upper respiratory inflammation accompanied by fatigue, muscle pain and general weakness.
Health professionals warn that attempts to continue daily activities while ill may lead to complications and longer recovery periods, emphasizing the importance of rest during infection.
They also caution against the unsupervised use of medications, particularly antibiotics, noting that such drugs are ineffective against viral infections and may reduce the body’s responsiveness to appropriate treatment.
Specialists further advise that moderate fever – up to around 38.5°C – can represent a normal immune response and should not always be suppressed immediately without medical guidance.
To support recovery and reduce transmission, doctors recommend adequate rest, proper nutrition, hydration, personal hygiene, mask use in crowded indoor spaces and self-isolation when symptoms appear.
