Gold jewelry sets in Azerbaijan are now selling for between 3,000 and 10,000 manats as buyers continue to face high prices in the local precious metals market.
The sets typically include a necklace, earrings, a ring and a bracelet and remain especially popular among families shopping for weddings and other celebrations.
Customers interviewed at jewelry stores said prices remain difficult to afford, particularly for larger Italian-style sets decorated with stones. One shopper said she was considering a set priced at around 9,000 manats.
Sellers say 585-grade gold remains the most popular choice among Azerbaijani buyers. Turkish gold continues to hold a strong position in the market, while demand for so-called Russian gold has almost disappeared.
A Turkish gold set weighing about 15 grams is being offered for approximately 3,200 manats. Italian sets weighing close to 20 grams and featuring decorative stones cost between 6,000 and 7,000 manats.
More affordable wedding sets currently start at around 2,200 to 2,700 manats, while other models are priced at 3,300 to 3,400 manats. The most expensive sets available in some stores cost between 9,000 and 10,000 manats.
Jewelry sellers also report growing demand for Arab-style gold. At the same time, consumer preferences have shifted away from large and heavy pieces toward simpler and lighter designs.
Retail prices currently stand at about 128.50 manats per gram for 583-grade Russian gold and 128.71 manats per gram for 585-grade Turkish gold. Italian gold with a purity of 750 is being sold for around 165 manats per gram.
