The Zolotaya Korona payment system has stopped processing money transfers from Russia to Azerbaijan after its operator was targeted by new European Union sanctions.
Azerbaijan was removed from the list of countries available for online transfers from Russia through the service. Only Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan remain available.
The restrictions followed the EU’s decision to sanction Payment Center, the Russian company that operates and provides settlement services for Zolotaya Korona.
Transfers through the system from Azerbaijan to Russia have also become unavailable at several Azerbaijani banks.
The suspension applies specifically to Zolotaya Korona and does not mean that all money transfer channels between Russia and Azerbaijan have been closed.
