A preschool in Baku has been accused of removing a young child from its program because the child has diabetes, according to the child’s mother.
As AZE.US reports, Hadiya Gurbanaliyeva said her child had been attending the Ajami branch of the Barama preschool when the family was informed that the child could no longer remain there.
According to Gurbanaliyeva, the child’s medical documents are in order and the child remains under regular medical supervision. She said the preschool nevertheless cited the child’s health condition when imposing restrictions on attendance.
The mother said the family was initially told that it would be better for the child to stay home for one or two months. Later, she said, the preschool required the family to arrange an individual caregiver or supervisor for the child.
Gurbanaliyeva said the family could not afford the additional expense.
She also alleged that preschool employees repeatedly contacted the family and asked them to remove the child from the relevant registration portal.
The parents refused, according to Gurbanaliyeva, but later discovered that the child’s registration had been canceled.
The mother said the family was not provided with any official decision, medical opinion or legal justification explaining why the child had been removed from the preschool.
Journalists who went to the preschool seeking comment said representatives of the institution did not speak to them. According to the report, the doors were closed and the curtains were drawn after the camera crew arrived.
Gurbanaliyeva said she believes the treatment of her child raises concerns about both ethical standards and the protection of children’s rights.
The family has filed complaints with the relevant authorities.
The preschool’s management had not publicly presented its version of events at the time of the report, and the allegations have not been independently verified.
