Azerbaijan has increased the maximum speed limit on toll highways from 110 km/h to 130 km/h for certain categories of vehicles.
The amendment was adopted in the third reading during a plenary session of the Milli Majlis. The issue gained public attention after drivers voiced concerns about speed enforcement cameras on toll roads, arguing that paid routes should offer faster and more efficient travel compared to free alternatives.
Under the new rules, passenger cars and грузовые vehicles with a maximum permitted weight of up to 3.5 tons will be allowed to travel at speeds of up to 130 km/h on toll highways. For buses, articulated vehicles, and грузовые vehicles exceeding 3.5 tons, the maximum speed remains capped at 90 km/h.
The legislative package also introduces changes related to vehicle impoundment procedures. Once the owner pays the established fee for towing and storage at a secured parking facility, the vehicle must be returned immediately.
If a vehicle is detained unlawfully or sustains damage due to improper storage, the owner has the right to challenge the action in court under administrative procedures.
Officials say the changes are intended to improve the efficiency of toll road usage while clarifying the legal framework governing vehicle detention and storage.
