President Ilham Aliyev said Azerbaijan’s relationship with the United States is entering a more active and strategically significant stage, pointing to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and energy.
The remarks came on February 9, when Aliyev met with a delegation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce that included representatives of major global corporations such as Apple, ExxonMobil, Boeing, Visa, Meta, and bp, among others – underscoring growing international business interest in Azerbaijan’s economic trajectory.
According to the Azerbaijani leader, bilateral contacts have intensified in recent months. Strategic partnership documents have been signed, multiple government-level exchanges have taken place, and dialogue at the highest political level has continued, including a recent meeting with Donald Trump in Davos.
Aliyev said traditional energy cooperation is now being complemented by new priority areas – particularly digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the development of data centers – where Azerbaijan expects leading American technology firms to play a central role.
He highlighted several structural advantages shaping the country’s outlook:
-
a strategic geographic position linking Europe and Asia;
-
extensive infrastructure including pipelines, railways, ports, and energy networks;
-
full energy self-sufficiency with significant export capacity;
-
expanding investment in renewables expected to add 7-8 gigawatts of solar and wind power by 2032.
Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan already supplies natural gas via pipelines to 16 countries, contributing to Europe’s energy security, while also seeking to leverage its energy resources to support digital infrastructure and attract global technology partnerships.
He also pointed to macroeconomic stability, including low external debt, growth in the non-oil sector, and a sustained pro-investment environment. Roughly $350 billion in investment has entered Azerbaijan’s economy over the past two decades.
Looking ahead, Aliyev said Azerbaijan aims to remain a platform for cooperation rather than confrontation, deepen international partnerships, and accelerate development in advanced technologies and digital infrastructure in collaboration with global industry leaders.
