Entry at the Khojasan and Avtovagzal stations of the Baku Metro will temporarily be free starting Sept. 23, allowing passengers to travel to nine stations without paying a fare.
The measure was approved by Baku Metro and the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency as part of a project to separate metro lines.
Nine Stations Included
Passengers entering at Khojasan or Avtovagzal will be able to travel free to 8 November, Darnagul, Azadlig Prospekti, Nasimi, Memar Ajami, 20 January, Inshaatchilar, Elmlar Akademiyasi and Nizami stations.
The measure is intended to simplify trips from Sumgayit, Khirdalan, communities along the Baku-Shamakhi highway and parts of the Absheron and Garadagh districts. Passengers will no longer need to travel first through the Shamakhinka area or the district around 20 January station.
Some bus routes are expected to be redirected directly to the Khojasan and Avtovagzal stations.
Officials did not specify how long the free-entry arrangement will remain in place, saying it will operate temporarily while the metro line-separation project is carried out.
