One of America’s most recognizable fast-food brands has officially entered the Azerbaijani market.

The first Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant in Azerbaijan opened its doors today at Crescent Mall, marking the brand’s debut in Baku.

Popeyes Azerbaijan is the result of a partnership between two entrepreneurs – one American and one Azerbaijani – who met while studying at Harvard Business School. The venture represents a joint U.S.-Azerbaijani investment in the local economy and is expected to create approximately 50 jobs per location, according to the founders.

Founded in 1972 in New Orleans, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has grown from a single fried chicken restaurant into a global chain with more than 4,000 outlets across dozens of countries. The brand is widely known for its New Orleans–style fried chicken and Cajun-inspired menu, and is often cited as an example of American franchise-driven expansion.

The Baku opening signals continued interest by international food and beverage brands in Azerbaijan’s retail and consumer market, particularly within newly developed commercial centers.

Further expansion plans have not yet been officially announced.
