Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates signed six agreements covering renewable energy, the Southern Gas Corridor, artificial intelligence, mining and investment cooperation in Baku on September 14.
The signing ceremony was attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s national security adviser and deputy ruler of Abu Dhabi, VestiBaku reported.
The documents were signed following Aliyev’s meeting with Sheikh Tahnoun. During the talks, the two sides discussed the development of their strategic partnership and the expansion of bilateral cooperation.
The first agreement brings together Abu Dhabi renewable energy company Masdar and Azerbaijan Green Energy Company to develop new renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan Investment Holding and L’IMAD Holding Company also signed a strategic cooperation agreement. Financial details and specific projects covered by the deal were not disclosed.
AzerGold and Terra Mining Ltd. agreed to jointly evaluate and explore mineral resources and mining sites in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
UAE Company to Help Develop AI Infrastructure
A separate memorandum between Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry and Abu Dhabi-based Group 42 Holding, better known as G42, covers the development of data centers, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Azerbaijan.
The agreement could support Azerbaijan’s efforts to expand the computing capacity required for AI development, data processing and digital public services.
Another document was a shareholders’ agreement between Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry, acting on behalf of the government, and XRG SGC Limited concerning Southern Gas Corridor CJSC. The parties did not disclose the size or financial terms of the transaction.
The Southern Gas Corridor transports Azerbaijani natural gas to Turkey and European markets through a network that includes the South Caucasus Pipeline, the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline and the Trans Adriatic Pipeline.
Financial Closing Confirmed for 315-MW Solar Project
Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry, state oil company SOCAR and Masdar also signed a document confirming financial closing for the 315-megawatt Neftchala solar photovoltaic project.
Financial closing is a major milestone that confirms the financing arrangements required for a project to proceed. It does not mean that the power plant has already been completed.
The foundation for the Neftchala facility was laid in June 2024 alongside the 445-MW Bilasuvar solar project and the 240-MW Absheron-Garadagh wind project. Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry said in April that work was continuing on 1,000 MW of solar and wind capacity in partnership with Masdar.
The latest agreements build on the UAE-Azerbaijan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which was signed in July 2025 and entered into force on April 15, 2026. The trade agreement is intended to expand investment, supply-chain integration and cooperation in the digital economy.
