Residents of Baku say they are increasingly encountering a frustrating issue when ordering taxis through mobile apps: drivers are being directed to the wrong location.
Passengers told local media that despite selecting their actual position on the map, taxi applications sometimes display a different pickup point. As a result, drivers arrive elsewhere, leading to delays, confusion and occasional disputes between customers and drivers.
Some users said they often receive calls from drivers asking them to walk to another location shown in the app. While this may be manageable when the distance is short, it becomes problematic during bad weather or when traveling with children.
The issue is also creating difficulties for drivers. Taxi operators say that when an incorrect location is displayed, passengers frequently ask them to cancel the order. However, driver-initiated cancellations can negatively affect performance ratings and reduce future ride priority.
According to drivers, they sometimes travel toward a pickup point only to discover that the customer is actually located one or two kilometers away from the address shown in the system.
Some passengers believe the problem could be reduced by introducing designated pickup zones in busy areas, allowing both drivers and customers to meet at clearly identified locations.
The companies involved have offered differing responses. Bolt did not provide a comment in response to a media inquiry, while Yango stated that it has not identified any such problem on its platform.
The reports come as ride-hailing services continue to play a major role in urban transportation across Baku, making location accuracy an important issue for both passengers and drivers.
