Kamilya Aliyeva, the daughter of former Azerbaijani presidential administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev, testified in her father’s criminal case that she urged him to destroy a handwritten document criticizing conditions in the country.
Members of Mehdiyev’s family were questioned during the investigation and court proceedings, according to information reported by Gununsesi.info.
Aliyeva said her brother, Teymur, called her on Oct. 8, 2025, and told her that unspecified events had occurred at their father’s home and that some documents had been seized.
She then went to her parents’ home on Abbas Sahhat Street in Baku.
After she met her parents, Mehdiyev asked to speak with her and handed her a paper folder labeled “Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.” Inside was a sheet bearing an unfinished handwritten text.
Aliyeva said she immediately recognized her father’s handwriting. The document contained criticism of the weakness of Azerbaijan’s parliament, corruption and the way state institutions handled citizens’ appeals.
She testified that reading the text caused her severe stress and that she could not finish it.
Aliyeva then told her husband, Ilham Aliyev, about the document. After reading it, he asked Mehdiyev whether he intended to send it to anyone.
Aliyeva said she advised her father to tear up the sheet and throw it away. Mehdiyev replied that he had been retired for six years and saw no need to give advice to anyone.
She tried to determine whether he planned to publish the text but received no answer. Mehdiyev took the sheet from her and then did not speak to her for two days, according to her testimony.
Aliyeva said her father always kept personal documents exclusively in his room and did not share them with other family members.
She said she did not know what ultimately happened to the manuscript, including whether it was later destroyed.
