Pashinyan Says ‘Real Peace’ Exists Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said a “real peace” already exists between Armenia and Azerbaijan, although the two countries must still sign and ratify a treaty to give it legal force.

Pashinyan made the remarks at a Euronews summit on European Union enlargement in Brussels.

He linked the establishment of peace to agreements reached at the White House on Aug. 8, 2025, with U.S. President Donald Trump participating.

“Now we must sign the peace treaty and ratify it,” the Armenian prime minister said.

Pashinyan said Yerevan and Baku were building bilateral relations and that trade between the countries had begun. He also said a trilateral infrastructure project was ahead, but the portion of his speech cited in the report did not specify its details.

Opening regional transportation and other communications could give the South Caucasus a new international role, Pashinyan said.

Azerbaijan and Armenia have not yet signed a peace agreement. Pashinyan’s statement therefore describes his political assessment of the current relationship rather than the completion of the legal process.
