Russia has named senior diplomats and military officials to its delegation for trilateral talks with the United States and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 10-11.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky will again lead the Russian delegation. The talks are expected to focus on a possible end to Russia’s war against Ukraine and related security issues.
Deputy Foreign Ministers Sergei Ryabkov and Mikhail Galuzin will join the group. Ryabkov, whose portfolio includes relations with the Americas, arms control and nonproliferation, will take part in this negotiating format for the first time.
Russia’s military representatives will include Igor Kostyukov, head of the General Staff’s Main Directorate, and Yuri Zhigarlovsky, deputy head of the General Staff’s Main Operational Directorate.
The delegation met President Vladimir Putin at a Security Council meeting on Friday to discuss preparations for the talks. Most of that meeting was held behind closed doors.
The Abu Dhabi meeting will be the first round of U.S.-mediated trilateral talks since February. Territorial disagreements and the terms of security guarantees remain unresolved.
