The restored Baku-Tbilisi-Baku passenger train has quickly become one of the most talked-about transport stories in Azerbaijan, not only because the route has returned after a long pause, but because the train itself looks very different from the old image of overnight rail travel.
A new Azerbaijani-language video tour of the train gives a detailed look inside the carriages, showing sleeper cabins, control panels, monitors, sanitary facilities, showers, luggage areas, a restaurant section and service packages for passengers.
The route is important for both Azerbaijan and Georgia. It restores a direct overnight rail connection between the two capitals and gives travelers another option besides flights, buses or private cars. For families, students, business travelers and tourists, the train could again become a practical link between Baku and Tbilisi.
The video shows several types of cabins, including more comfortable compartments with lower and upper beds, personal lighting, power access, monitors and luggage space. Some cabins include a private toilet and shower, a feature that gives the service a more modern sleeper-train feel.
Passengers can control parts of the cabin environment through a panel. The system allows them to adjust lighting, manage sound, use the screen, check route information and call the attendant. The onboard monitor also shows navigation, train information, menu options and entertainment content.
The train also includes travel kits for passengers. According to the video, the kits may include basic hygiene items such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, slippers, towels and other personal-use products. Bedding is also provided.
One of the most notable parts of the tour is the attention to accessibility. The video shows a wider cabin and sanitary area designed for passengers with limited mobility, along with equipment intended to make boarding and movement easier. For an international route, that is not a cosmetic detail. It is part of making the train usable for more passengers.
The restaurant area is also shown in detail. It includes seating, a service counter, tea, coffee, sweets, water, refrigerated storage and equipment for heating food. The screen menu in the video lists breakfast options and other meals, suggesting that passengers will be able to order food during the journey rather than rely only on what they bring with them.
The video also points to the practical side of cross-border travel. Passengers on the Baku-Tbilisi route must go through border and customs procedures. The train provides information about declarations and travel rules, reminding passengers that this is not a domestic service but an international journey.
The strongest impression from the video is that the restored route is not just a symbolic return of an old railway connection. It is being presented as a new-generation overnight service, with cabins, showers, onboard screens, food options and a level of privacy that could make train travel attractive again.
For Azerbaijan and Georgia, the route strengthens regional mobility in the South Caucasus. For passengers, it offers a slower but potentially more comfortable alternative to flying: leave one capital at night, arrive in the other in the morning, and travel with more space than a bus or plane seat can offer.
The success of the service will depend on price, reliability, border procedures and how well the onboard standard is maintained. But the first look inside the train suggests that Baku-Tbilisi rail travel is returning not as nostalgia, but as a modern regional connection.
