Azerbaijani opposition politician and public figure Ilgar Mammadov has warned of declining public confidence in government institutions and growing political disengagement, arguing that expectations of greater freedom and rule of law after the war have largely gone unmet.
In comments posted on his Telegram channel, Mammadov said broad segments of society have lost interest in official rhetoric and internationally focused initiatives, while diplomatic circles risk becoming detached from domestic realities.
He also suggested the government’s authority has weakened in recent years and that decision-making is increasingly shaped by operative enforcement rather than political strategy.
Mammadov argued that Azerbaijan’s longer-term stability will depend on whether authorities pursue political reform or continue relying on coercive mechanisms of control, warning that the latter path could heighten the risk of internal conflicts with both domestic and external dimensions.
