Debris from a downed drone struck the roof of Moscow’s Sadovod market, where Azerbaijani entrepreneurs operate shops, starting a fire and temporarily shutting businesses.
The incident occurred during a large-scale drone attack on Moscow and the surrounding region on Sept. 20, according to APA’s Moscow bureau.
APA reported that fragments of a drone intercepted by Russian air defenses fell on the roof above the market’s first row. The resulting fire was quickly extinguished.
Azerbaijani business owners working at Sadovod told the agency that shops were initially closed. Employees and store owners began being allowed back into the complex after 10 a.m.
The report did not identify any casualties at the market or provide an estimate of damage to shops operated by Azerbaijani traders.
Oil Refinery Nearby Was Also Targeted
Sadovod is located near the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district. Citing a preliminary account, APA said the debris may have come from drones headed toward the refinery.
The attack affected several parts of Moscow and the surrounding region. APA reported, citing Russian regional authorities, that three people were killed and as many as 20 injured. Those casualties were not directly connected to the Sadovod incident.
Russian authorities blamed Ukraine for the attack. No separate Ukrainian comment on the market incident was cited at the time of publication.
