BAKU, Azerbaijan — Georgia imported 101,043 metric tons of oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan worth $102 million during the first eight months of 2026, with the value of the shipments doubling from a year earlier.
The physical volume of supplies increased 38% compared with January–August 2025. Azerbaijan ranked fifth among suppliers of oil and petroleum products to the Georgian market.
Bilateral Trade Nears $1 Billion
Total trade between Azerbaijan and Georgia reached $959.6 million in January–August, an increase of 13.4% from the same period last year.
Azerbaijan accounted for 5.4% of Georgia’s foreign trade and ranked fifth among the neighboring country’s trading partners, after Turkey, China, Russia and the United States.
Overall, Georgia imported 1.217 million metric tons of oil and petroleum products worth $1.165 billion during the eight-month period. Import volume rose 8.3%, while spending increased 38%.
For comparison, Georgia imported 172,000 metric tons of the products from Azerbaijan during all of 2025, at a cost of $118 million.
The figures show that by the end of August 2026, the value of Georgia’s Azerbaijani oil and petroleum-product purchases had already reached nearly 86% of the total recorded for the whole previous year.
