Road closures, temporary transit corridors and parking restrictions have been introduced in central Baku ahead of the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Restrictions on the main streets forming the Baku City Circuit will remain in place until the morning of September 28.
The first restrictions took effect at 9 p.m. on September 19 near the section of Pushkin Street that intersects with Uzeyir Hajibeyli Street and Neftchilar Avenue.
The principal streets forming the race circuit were closed to traffic at 1 a.m. on September 20 and will remain closed until 8 a.m. on September 28.
Special entry and exit corridors will open during limited hours to allow residents of the affected central districts to reach their homes. Access to the restricted zone will require a residential entry permit.
When Transit Corridors Will Open
On September 21 and 22, vehicles will be allowed through during two windows:
- 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.;
- 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On September 23, the corridors will open:
- 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.;
- 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Main Entry Points
During the designated hours, drivers will be able to enter the restricted area through the following routes:
- from Salyan Highway toward Neftchilar Avenue and Azneft Square;
- from Lermontov Street toward 50th Anniversary of the United Nations Street and Istiglaliyyat Street;
- from Samad Vurgun Street toward Uzeyir Hajibeyli Street and Bulbul Avenue.
Exit Points
Exit routes will operate:
- from Neftchilar Avenue toward the Baku Sea Port, Port Baku Mall and Crescent Mall;
- from Istiglaliyyat Street toward Azerbaijan Avenue;
- from Neftchilar Avenue toward Azneft Square, Deniz Mall and Salyan Highway.
Stopping and parking will be prohibited along the temporary transit corridors. The speed limit on those routes will be 50 kilometers per hour.
Drivers have been urged to observe temporary road signs and avoid unnecessary trips into central Baku by private car. Authorities recommend using public transportation where possible.
Parking Restrictions
Several parking areas in central Baku will be temporarily closed from September 20 through September 29. The restrictions apply both near the circuit and on streets expected to carry diverted traffic.
Paid-parking signs at affected locations have been covered, indicating that drivers may not leave their vehicles there even if parking was previously permitted.
Motorists have been advised to pay close attention to temporary signs. Vehicles left in restricted areas may be removed, while their owners could face administrative penalties.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place on the Baku City Circuit from September 24 to 26. Traffic restrictions will remain in force after the race while temporary circuit infrastructure is dismantled.
