MOSCOW — Russia’s ruling United Russia party took 57.54% of the party-list vote in the first preliminary results from the State Duma election, according to figures released after the first protocols were counted.
The Communist Party received 13%, the Liberal Democratic Party 9%, New People 7%, and A Just Russia — For Truth 5.16%, according to the early count reported by RBC. The figures remained preliminary and were expected to change as additional ballots were processed.
Turnout Near 56% as Three-Day Vote Ends
Voting was held from Sept. 18 through Sept. 20. The Central Election Commission said turnout was about 56% as of 9 p.m. Moscow time, higher than the participation recorded in the 1993, 2016 and 2021 parliamentary campaigns.
Half of the State Duma’s 450 members are elected through federal party lists, while the other 225 seats are filled in single-member districts. Parties must clear a 5% threshold to enter parliament through the party-list vote.
Remote electronic voting was available in 33 regions, including Moscow. More complete preliminary results were expected on Sept. 21.
Final Day Marked by Drone Attacks and Cyber Disruptions
The final day of voting coincided with what Moscow authorities described as the largest drone attack on the Russian capital since the war began. Russian officials said three people were killed in the Moscow region and a facility at the Moscow oil refinery was damaged, Reuters reported.
Two other people, including an election commission employee, were reported killed in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine’s Kherson region.
Election authorities also reported cyberattacks and technical disruptions but said voting largely continued as planned. Kyiv considers Russia’s elections in occupied Ukrainian territories illegal.
