Deposits held in 19 Azerbaijani banks currently undergoing liquidation totaled 2.364 billion manats, according to the country’s Deposit Insurance Fund.
The banks had a combined 651,768 depositors. However, most of those accounts contained only nominal balances.
According to the fund, 518,000 customers had no more than one manat left in their accounts. This explains why the total number of depositors was significantly higher than the number of people who ultimately received compensation.
A total of 63,888 depositors qualified for payments.
The overall value of insured deposits eligible for compensation stood at 1.7616 billion manats. So far, approximately 1.7299 billion manats has been paid out, representing 98% of the protected amount.
The liquidation process continues, including efforts to recover assets and repay claims not covered by the deposit insurance system.
