Car buyers in Azerbaijan are increasingly faced with a familiar dilemma: purchase a new Chinese vehicle with a factory warranty or choose a used model from a more established brand.
The decision depends on more than the initial price. Buyers also need to consider the vehicle’s technical condition, future repair and maintenance costs, fuel consumption, availability of spare parts and resale value.
Transport expert Eldaniz Jafarov said there is no single option that works for everyone. The choice should be based primarily on the buyer’s budget and personal needs.
He recommended giving preference, where possible, to vehicles covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.
Such warranties are typically valid for up to five years or 100,000 kilometers. If a defect covered by the warranty occurs during that period, the official dealer or distributor may repair the vehicle or replace the affected parts at no additional cost.
A new vehicle also gives the buyer greater certainty about its history, mileage and maintenance.
However, buyers considering a Chinese model should check whether the brand has an official dealer, service facilities and a reliable supply of spare parts in Azerbaijan.
Used Cars Require More Careful Inspection
A used vehicle may offer better value, particularly if it is a reliable and widely serviced model. But it also comes with greater risks.
Jafarov advised first-time buyers to seek help from someone with experience in evaluating vehicles.
Before completing the purchase, the car should undergo a full diagnostic inspection. Its technical condition, mileage and documents should also be carefully checked.
Buyers should pay particular attention to the engine, transmission, suspension, bodywork and electronic systems, as well as any signs that the vehicle may have been involved in an accident.
A lower purchase price can quickly become less attractive if the car requires major repairs shortly after the transaction.
A new car with a factory warranty generally offers greater predictability and protection from unexpected expenses. A carefully inspected used vehicle may cost less, but the buyer must be prepared to conduct a thorough technical and legal review before completing the deal.
