With the month of Muharram nearing its end, Baku’s wedding season is set to begin again. For couples and families planning celebrations, one of the biggest concerns remains the cost of banquet halls.
Menu prices at wedding venues in Baku currently start at around 50 manats per person and can rise to 350 manats, while some premium venues charge as much as 500 manats per guest.
That raises an obvious question: what exactly is included in such an expensive wedding package?
According to local media reports, premium wedding menus differ significantly from standard banquet offerings. The focus is not only on quantity, but also on rare delicacies, imported products, elaborate presentation and personalized service.
Caviar, Lobster and Sushi Stations
High-end menus may include black and white caviar, smoked and marinated salmon, as well as a wide range of seafood such as shrimp, squid, mussels, octopus and lobster.
Sushi and roll stations have also become increasingly common at luxury weddings, while hot seafood dishes may be prepared individually for guests.
The meat selection is usually extensive as well. Guests may be served different types of lamb, veal and beef kebabs, premium steaks with special sauces, oven-baked dishes and meals prepared in traditional clay ovens.
At some weddings, a whole lamb or turkey is ceremonially brought into the hall as one of the evening’s main presentations. Duck, beef ribs and other premium meat dishes may also be included.
Imported Cheese, Exotic Fruit and Dessert Bars
Cold appetizers often include French and Italian cheeses, smoked meats, premium sausages and ham, olives, marinated vegetables and snacks prepared with specialty sauces.
The fruit and dessert section is another major feature. Imported mangoes, passion fruit, dragon fruit, pineapples, blueberries and raspberries may be served alongside dried fruit, almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts, walnuts and raisins.
Dessert tables can include mini cakes, macarons, mousses, Belgian chocolate and handmade sweets. Many premium weddings also feature a separate dessert bar offering dozens of different items.
Expensive Drinks and Professional Service
Beverages can account for a significant share of the final price.
Premium packages may include aged cognac and whisky, collectible wines, champagne, natural juices, imported soft drinks and custom cocktails. Some venues also provide professional baristas and bartenders.
However, the 500-manat price tag is not explained by food and drinks alone.
A substantial portion of the cost goes toward service, venue infrastructure, decoration and entertainment.
Custom Decorations and Celebrity Performances
Luxury wedding halls often create the interior according to an individual design concept.
Decorations may include fresh flowers imported from the Netherlands and other countries, custom floral arrangements, LED screens, modern lighting and stage systems.
Service standards are also higher. Waiters may receive special training, sometimes speak foreign languages, and be assigned to only two or three tables. Several professional chefs may work simultaneously to ensure that dishes are served hot and on time.
Entertainment is another major expense. Premium weddings often feature well-known Azerbaijani singers, popular music groups and dance ensembles. In some cases, foreign performers are invited.
Modern sound and lighting systems, laser shows, special dance programs and fireworks can add considerably to the final bill.
Industry representatives say wealthy families increasingly prefer fully customized wedding concepts, with the menu, decoration and show program designed according to the client’s wishes.
A wedding package costing 500 manats per person therefore represents far more than an elaborate meal. It combines exclusive products, personalized service, expensive decoration and a large-scale entertainment program.
