BAKU, Azerbaijan - Azerbaijan has approved two intergovernmental agreements with Uzbekistan on cooperation in culture and tourism, completing the Azerbaijani domestic approval stage for documents signed in Tashkent on Aug. 23.
President Ilham Aliyev signed separate decrees approving the agreements on Oct. 26, according to APA and Report.
Once the cultural agreement enters into force, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture will be responsible for implementing its provisions. The State Tourism Agency will oversee implementation of the tourism agreement.
The Foreign Ministry was instructed to notify the Uzbek government that Azerbaijan had completed the internal procedures required for both documents to take effect.
The decrees formalize Azerbaijan’s approval but do not mean that practical implementation begins immediately. The agreements must first enter into force through the notification process set out by the two governments.
The documents were among a broader package signed during high-level talks in Tashkent. The August agreements covered several areas of bilateral cooperation as Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan sought to deepen political, economic and people-to-people ties.
