Annual tuition at 15 private schools in Baku ranges from 8,000 to 26,000 manats ($4,706 to $15,294), prompting renewed debate among parents as the new academic year approaches.
The cost of private education is shaped by several factors, including school infrastructure, security systems, meals, modern technology, laboratories, extracurricular activities, foreign-language instruction and international academic programs.
Private schools also tend to offer smaller classes and more individualized attention. Tuition may cover psychological and educational support, monitoring of each child’s development and closer interaction among teachers, students and parents.
However, a high price does not necessarily guarantee a high-quality education.
Commenting on the issue, Amra Hasanli said parents should evaluate a school’s academic system rather than focus solely on its prestigious name, tuition fees or the appearance of its campus.
“Paying 20,000 to 25,000 manats ($11,765 to $14,706) does not automatically mean that a child will receive education of equivalent quality,” Hasanli said.
“The key question is how much of that money is directly translated into better teaching.”
Parents should examine what knowledge and skills their children will acquire, the qualifications of the teaching staff, the overall performance of graduates and the school’s measurable contribution to a student’s development.
At the same time, the success or failure of a single graduate does not necessarily prove that a school is good or bad.
A more reliable assessment should consider the curriculum, teacher qualifications, student support and consistent academic outcomes.
