Container traffic through the Port of Baku increased by 22% in January-August 2026, exceeding 85,000 twenty-foot equivalent units, or TEU.
Total cargo handling surpassed 5.5 million metric tons, according to figures reported by Vesti Baku.
Azerbaijan Railways said the port’s overall cargo turnover grew by nearly 3% compared with the same period of 2025.
The container segment expanded much faster. The port handled 69,855 TEU during the first eight months of 2025, compared with more than 85,000 TEU in the corresponding period this year.
In August alone, container traffic reached 12,900 TEU, up 39% year over year.
The figures show that container shipments through Baku are growing considerably faster than total cargo turnover. The port is a key link in the Middle Corridor connecting Central Asia and the Caspian region with the South Caucasus, Turkey and European markets.
