BAKU, March 5 – Two civilians were injured after drones launched from the territory of Iran struck Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, according to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry said the attack took place around midday on March 5.

According to the statement, one drone hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another fell near a school building in the village of Shakarabad in the Babek district.

The incident caused damage to infrastructure and left two civilians wounded.

Baku strongly condemned the drone strike, describing it as a violation of international law.

“This attack on the territory of Azerbaijan contradicts the norms and principles of international law and contributes to rising tensions in the region,” the Foreign Ministry said.

Azerbaijan demanded that Iran urgently clarify the incident, provide an explanation and take immediate steps to prevent such events from happening again.

Following the attack, Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where he will be presented with an official note of protest.

The Azerbaijani government also stated that it reserves the right to take appropriate response measures.

Earlier reports said one of the drones exploded near a secondary school in Shakarabad village, while another struck the airport terminal in Nakhchivan.

The situation remains under close monitoring as authorities assess the full extent of the damage.
