Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said the period of crisis in relations between Moscow and Baku has ended and that the two sides should now focus on strengthening cooperation.
The statement was made during a meeting of the presidium of the scientific and expert council under Russia’s Security Council, according to Vesti Baku.
Shoigu said tensions had been overcome through joint efforts by Russia and Azerbaijan. He described the next task as the consistent development of bilateral ties in line with agreements reached by the two countries’ leaders.
Basis for Future Relations
According to Shoigu, Moscow intends to rely on the existing legal framework, including the Declaration on Allied Interaction, as well as the principles of good-neighborliness and partnership.
He did not announce new agreements, deadlines or a specific roadmap. His remarks therefore represent a political signal from Moscow that it considers the crisis phase over, rather than the launch of a new package of bilateral arrangements.
