Young Goat Meat Sells For 18-20 Manats Per Kilo In Azerbaijan

Young goat meat is currently selling for 18-20 manats ($10.6-$11.8) per kilogram in Azerbaijan, with vendors saying demand has picked up in recent years even though it still trails lamb.

Butchers and market sellers say the product has been drawing more interest because of its soft texture and distinct taste. Depending on the point of sale, prices now come close to lamb, with the gap usually standing at around 1-2 manats per kilogram.

Traders say demand remains lower than for lamb, but there is still a steady group of buyers who specifically look for young goat meat. Some vendors also say it is often preferred by consumers seeking a lighter alternative.

According to sellers, meat quality depends heavily on the animal’s age and weight. Animals weighing around 8-10 kilograms are typically considered suitable for slaughter, while those above roughly 12-13 kilograms are treated as a different category.

Suppliers told local media that most of the animals are brought in from the Jalilabad and Sabirabad districts. Vendors also said prices may rise further in the coming months, as demand for young goat meat usually strengthens during the autumn and winter season.
