BP has completed its CAGE project at the Central Azeri platform, increasing the facility’s capacity to reinject gas into oil reservoirs by 20%.
The upgrade is designed to improve recovery from existing wells at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block and support sustained production without building another platform, according to Vesti Baku.
Four Compressors Upgraded
Offshore work began in January 2026 and was completed in September, ahead of schedule. Internal rotating assemblies and auxiliary components were replaced on four compressors.
The work was carried out without shutting down production and without additional gas flaring. During planned maintenance in August, the inlet manifold piping system serving the compressors was also modified.
Gas reinjection helps maintain reservoir pressure and can increase the amount of oil recovered from existing deposits. BP has not disclosed the project’s cost or the volume of additional production it expects the upgrade to generate.
