Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan has signed a decree reappointing Nikol Pashinyan as the country’s prime minister.
As AZE.US reports, the decree was published on August 2 on the official website of the Armenian presidency.
“Guided by Part 1 of Article 149 of the Constitution, appoint Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister,” the document said.
Earlier on Sunday, Armenia’s government formally resigned following the start of work by the newly elected National Assembly. Pashinyan submitted the cabinet’s resignation to the president, describing the move as a procedural step required by law.
The parliamentary faction of the ruling Civil Contract party, which secured a majority in the June 7 election, subsequently nominated Pashinyan again for the post of prime minister.
The appointment allows Pashinyan to retain his position and begin forming a new government. The next stage will include the appointment of ministers and approval of the cabinet’s structure.
Pashinyan has headed Armenia’s government since 2018.
