Electric vehicle owners in Azerbaijan say they are being forced to wait for hours at charging stations because of a shortage of equipment and frequent technical failures.
Drivers told local media that only a few chargers may be operational at some locations. At one station, just two of five charging units were reportedly working.
Charging a vehicle can take between 50 minutes and one hour, but queues significantly increase the total waiting time.
Experts warn that the problem could worsen as the number of electric vehicles in Azerbaijan continues to grow. They say the development of charging infrastructure is not keeping pace with rising demand.
Although businesses have been given opportunities to import equipment and establish charging stations, private companies have shown limited interest in expanding the network.
The shortage of reliable charging points is also reducing the appeal of electric vehicles among potential buyers, experts said.
They have called for a nationwide charging infrastructure program, with new stations placed according to actual demand, traffic volumes and the concentration of electric vehicles in different areas.
