KURDAMIR, Azerbaijan - Fifty people sought medical care after a suspected mass food poisoning at a wedding in the central Azerbaijani city of Kurdamir, according to an updated local media report.
The patients were taken to Kurdamir Central District Hospital after attending a celebration at one of the city’s banquet halls, Vesti Baku reported, citing APA’s local bureau.
Initial reports said 13 people were affected, with the count later rising to 30. By 12:55 a.m. on Oct. 1, the reported number of people seeking medical assistance had reached 50.
The condition of patients admitted earlier was described as moderate. The report said the number of people seeking treatment could increase.
Law enforcement authorities have opened an investigation. The cause of the suspected poisoning has not yet been officially identified, and no specific food item has been publicly named.
