The United States is interested in further strengthening its partnership with Azerbaijan and welcomes Baku’s commitment to lasting peace in the South Caucasus, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a message marking Azerbaijan’s Independence Day.
The statement was published on the official website of the U.S. Department of State.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Azerbaijan on Independence Day,” Rubio said.
In the message, Rubio said relations between the two countries had been elevated over the past year to a strategic partnership. He said that step was reflected in the signing of the Strategic Partnership Charter in Baku by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Rubio said Washington looks forward to strengthening the partnership further through expanded regional infrastructure, economic ties and security cooperation.
The statement also highlighted the South Caucasus peace track. Rubio said the United States welcomes Azerbaijan’s commitment to lasting peace in the region and looks forward to continuing cooperation in support of those efforts.
“We look forward to deepening our partnership in the year ahead and beyond,” Rubio said.
The message comes as Washington has shown growing interest in the South Caucasus, where peace talks, transit routes, energy security and regional connectivity are increasingly tied to broader U.S. policy toward the Caspian region and Central Asia.
