Azerbaijan and Armenia are continuing work on the delimitation and demarcation of their state border, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said.
Bayramov told journalists that the process cannot be completed quickly because it involves many technical issues. He said work is ongoing and that the sides have already taken another practical step in the process.
The minister recalled that on April 29, an Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev visited Armenia for the next meeting of the bilateral border commissions. According to Bayramov, the sides agreed on three documents setting the procedure and rules for further work.
The documents cover the working procedure of expert groups, the preparation of the delimitation map and the drafting and publication of border delimitation documents. The parties are expected to submit the instructions to their respective governments for approval.
Bayramov said he expects the process to continue in the coming months.
The foreign minister also addressed Armenia’s domestic political environment. He said some political circles in Armenia still demonstrate revanchist thinking toward Azerbaijan, including during the pre-election period.
Bayramov said such rhetoric cannot bring any positive outcome for Armenia. He added that Baku hopes Armenian voters will properly assess these messages and make their choice.
The minister also commented on the incident involving an attack on Nakhchivan. According to Bayramov, Iran has promised Azerbaijan that it will investigate the missile-drone incident.
