A dispute has erupted between a Baku customer and leasing company Xalq 11 over eight vehicles obtained for use as taxis. The customer says he paid nearly 80,000 manats ($47,000), while the company says it repossessed the cars after several months of missed payments.
Murad Gadimov leased the eight vehicles in 2025, according to Baku TV.
Gadimov said he made an initial payment of approximately 8,200 manats ($4,820) for each car and agreed to monthly installments of 762 manats ($448) per vehicle.
After later encountering financial difficulties, he attempted to arrange the sale of three cars to cover payments on the remaining vehicles. He said the company then informed him that each car carried additional charges of 4,185 manats ($2,460).
According to Gadimov, he paid more than 12,000 manats ($7,060) in charges for the three vehicles, but the dispute remained unresolved.
He claimed the company subsequently stopped providing documents required to operate the cars as taxis. The vehicles remained idle, he said, leaving him unable to generate income and continue making monthly payments.
Gadimov alleged that company employees later removed the cars from a parking lot without notifying him and said they would be offered for sale. He said he had paid the company a total of nearly 80,000 manats by that point.
Xalq 11 disputed his account. A company representative said Gadimov had failed to make payments for four months and was entering a fifth month of delinquency.
The company said the leasing agreements had been terminated several months earlier and that Gadimov had signed a termination notice. In a formal response, Xalq 11 said its actions complied with Azerbaijani law and that the vehicles were being offered for sale because the customer had failed to meet his payment obligations.
A legal expert told Baku TV that a leasing agreement differs from a standard vehicle loan or purchase contract. Legal ownership of the cars generally remains with the leasing company until all required payments are completed.
If a customer fails to make payments, the company may terminate the agreement and recover the vehicles if the contract allows it. However, disputes over additional charges, previously paid funds and the repossession process can be challenged in court.
Gadimov may seek a judicial review of the contracts, the debt calculations and the legality of the company’s actions.
