Drivers in Azerbaijan who leave traffic fines unpaid for months may face more than a growing debt. Their right to drive can also be restricted under existing legislation.
Attorney Tural Hasanli told local media that the law sets out a specific procedure for such cases. Once a decision on an administrative fine enters into force, the driver is expected to pay it within the legally established period.
If the fine is not paid within three months and there is no valid legal reason for the delay, additional measures may be taken against the driver. In such cases, the right to operate a vehicle can be restricted, while the case may also be sent for compulsory enforcement.
Hasanli said that when a decision on an administrative penalty sent for enforcement is not carried out voluntarily by the debtor within the period set by law, and without a valid excuse, the relevant authority may apply compulsory enforcement measures under Azerbaijan’s Law “On Enforcement.”
The lawyer said drivers should pay fines on time and avoid ignoring administrative decisions, as unpaid penalties can eventually lead to direct restrictions on their driving rights.
