Why Construction Material Sales Are Slowing In Azerbaijan

Sales at construction materials markets across Azerbaijan have slowed noticeably in recent weeks, as traders report weaker customer activity despite concerns about supply disruptions.

Vendors say that for the past two to three weeks shipments of some materials have been irregular, particularly goods imported from Iran. Traders link the delays to the broader regional situation and logistical difficulties affecting cross-border deliveries.

Despite the supply uncertainty, prices have largely remained stable for now.

Sellers at local markets say many of the rumors about sharp price increases are exaggerated. According to traders, most of the materials currently being sold arrived earlier and remain priced at previous levels.

For example, red bricks are selling for around 0.34 AZN per piece, while some Iranian bricks are priced at roughly 1.30–1.40 AZN. Market participants say these prices have not changed significantly in recent weeks.

Traders explain that many sellers still have inventory purchased before the recent disruptions. To keep goods moving and maintain cash flow, they are reluctant to raise prices while demand remains weak.

“The main issue right now isn’t prices – it’s the lack of buyers,” one vendor said.

According to market participants, the slowdown reflects seasonal and economic factors, with construction activity currently limited and many buyers postponing projects.

However, sellers expect the situation to shift in the coming months. As the spring construction season begins, demand for building materials in Azerbaijan typically rises, which could lead to higher sales volumes and potentially push prices upward.
