Azerbaijan is again discussing the quality of meat products after food safety inspections found horse meat in some sausage products.
According to Vesti Baku, the issue was raised by Goshgar Tahmazli, chairman of the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency, in a joint interview with Trend and Xəzər TV.
Tahmazli said inspections had covered 65 enterprises producing sausage products and hot dogs. In total, more than 230 inspections were carried out.
According to him, various food safety violations were found in 60 cases. The violations involved 46 enterprises.
The agency found indicators making 78 product samples unfit for human consumption. In some cases, inspectors also discovered inconsistencies between the declared nutritional value of the products and their actual contents.
Tahmazli separately noted that horse meat was detected in sausage products in 10 cases.
“Measures were taken against those enterprises in accordance with the procedure established by law,” he said.
The statement comes after AQTA earlier reported another case involving the Alp Delux banquet hall in Baku’s Nizami district, located on Mikayil Aliyev Street. During an inspection, the agency said it found serious sanitary and hygiene violations at the venue. Inspectors also had concerns about meat stored in the facility’s refrigerated area.
Samples were sent for laboratory testing, and AQTA said the results showed the presence of horse meat.
The agency says inspections in the food sector are continuing, as the issue concerns both food safety and consumer rights.
