With more than two months left before the start of the new academic year, many parents in Azerbaijan are already looking at the cost of school uniforms.

For now, sellers say prices remain largely unchanged compared to last year. Skirts are currently sold for around 15-25 manats ($9-$15), shirts and blouses for 15-20 manats ($9-$12), and trousers for 15-25 manats ($9-$15).

According to market participants, some uniforms are imported from Turkey and other countries, while prices depend on fabric quality, production costs and supply conditions.

Baku Sewing House, one of the country’s main uniform suppliers, says there is currently enough fabric in stock. However, if demand rises sharply and additional raw materials need to be purchased, prices may be reviewed.

The company also notes that some items have become cheaper. For example, trousers that previously cost 25 manats are now sold for 15 manats. Discounts are also available on skirts and jackets. At the same time, shirts made of 100 percent cotton are purchased separately, which means their price may vary depending on supply costs.

Experts say the issue is especially sensitive for families with several school-age children. Parents often need to buy both summer and autumn-winter uniforms, which can place a serious burden on household budgets.

They suggest introducing a discount mechanism for large families. Under such a system, parents with two or three schoolchildren could present documents confirming enrollment and receive uniforms at reduced prices.

Specialists say relevant institutions should take family budgets into account and ensure that school uniforms remain affordable.

Demand for school uniforms in Azerbaijan usually increases sharply from August. Parents are therefore advised not to leave purchases until the final days before the school year begins, both to avoid queues and reduce the risk of higher prices.
