Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received Germany’s newly appointed ambassador to Baku, Dirk Lölke, on August 13 as the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation, regional peace and relations with the European Union.
Lölke presented his credentials to the Azerbaijani president during the meeting.
Aliyev recalled his official visit to Germany in July and his talks with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
He said Azerbaijan and Germany share similar views on regional stability, security and development.
The Azerbaijani leader highlighted the Joint Declaration on a Strategic Agenda for Bilateral Partnership signed in Berlin, saying the document had elevated relations between the two countries to a new level.
Aliyev also pointed to opportunities for expanding cooperation in trade, investment and business.
Lölke congratulated the president on the first anniversary of the Azerbaijan-Armenia summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025.
Aliyev said the regional peace agenda had been initiated by Azerbaijan and that Baku would continue its efforts to advance the process.
“Peace in the region is already irreversible,” he said.
The German ambassador said Berlin was pleased with the results of Aliyev’s recent visit and expressed hope that the agreements reached during the talks would soon be implemented.
The meeting also covered Azerbaijan’s relations with the European Union, the East-West transport corridor and the potential involvement of German companies in projects along the route.
The two sides additionally discussed cooperation in traditional and renewable energy, education and investment.
