Travelers looking for an affordable domestic vacation can still find rooms in Azerbaijan’s regions for 50–70 manats ($29–$41) per night, while cottages for two generally start at around 100 manats ($59).
The dollar equivalents are based on the Central Bank of Azerbaijan’s official Aug. 11 exchange rate of 1.70 manats per U.S. dollar.
Some of the more affordable accommodation options are available in Sheki, Qakh, Zagatala and Balakan, particularly at small guesthouses and family-run vacation properties located away from Baku.
Tourism expert Rahman Guliyev said a two-day regional getaway was possible even on a limited budget, although travelers should not expect luxury-hotel service at the lowest prices.
Guesthouses Offer the Lowest Rates
One guesthouse in Zagatala reported charging between 20 and 30 manats ($12–$18) per person for an overnight stay, including breakfast.
The property offers cottages for two guests as well as larger units accommodating three, four or eight people. Guests receive a breakfast consisting of seven items.
The 20-manat rate, however, applies to one person at a specific guesthouse and should not be viewed as the standard price for a private hotel room.
More typical budget accommodation in the region costs between 50 and 70 manats ($29–$41) for a single or double room at a lower-category hotel, cottage or family vacation center.
A-frame cottages for two people in the Sheki-Qakh-Zagatala-Balakan area generally start at approximately 100 manats ($59) per night. Breakfast is not always included.
Southern Resorts Cost More
Prices are somewhat higher in Azerbaijan’s southern tourism region.
Rooms at hotels offering access to the beach and swimming pools start at around 80 manats ($47). The rate may increase to 100 manats ($59) when a third guest is added.
Breakfast and access to indoor and outdoor pools are typically included. Repeat customers may receive discounts, with some guests reporting rates of around 70 manats ($41).
Luxury Service Cannot Be Expected for 50 Manats
Guliyev cautioned that travelers should not expect high-end service from a three-, four- or five-star hotel for 50 manats.
At that price level, the realistic options are small guesthouses, family-run accommodation and lower-category hotels. Facilities and service standards may be more limited, but these properties can provide an affordable alternative for short regional trips.
Travelers should also confirm whether the quoted price applies per person or per room and whether breakfast, pool access and other services are included.
Interest in Karabakh Destinations Is Growing
Demand for trips to Karabakh and East Zangezur has also increased compared with previous years.
Tourist activity has reportedly risen in Khankendi, Shusha, Lachin, Kalbajar and Zangilan as access to these destinations expands.
Tourism specialists believe the growing number of available routes will support Azerbaijan’s domestic tourism sector and give residents more options for spending their vacations inside the country.
