Prices for timber and plywood have increased in Azerbaijan as demand grows during the peak construction season.
Global lumber prices have also continued to rise, with lumber futures reaching their highest level in 34 weeks. According to market data, the price has climbed to $633.5 per 1,000 board feet, which is roughly equivalent to $268 per cubic meter.
Over the past four weeks, lumber prices have increased by 6.31%. Over the past 12 months, the rise has stood at 2.68%.
Azerbaijan imports most of its timber materials from Russia, meaning global price movements do not always affect the local market directly. Still, traders say seasonal demand and psychological factors are also playing a role.
A businessman named Elmidar, who works at the timber market in Baku’s Darnagul district, told Bizim.Media that the construction season is currently at its peak.
“As a result, prices for most construction materials have gone up. As for timber materials, 18 mm plywood, which previously sold for 25-26 manats, is now being offered for 30 manats. Plywood of 10 mm thickness costs 22 manats, while 15 mm plywood is offered for 25 manats,” he said.
According to him, one cubic meter of 2 cm boards currently costs 330 manats, while 5 cm boards are being offered for 320 manats.
This means that the price of one cubic meter of timber has increased by 15-20 manats over the past few months. Plywood prices have risen more sharply, by about 17-18%.
