Not all applicants who scored more than 600 points in Azerbaijan’s Group IV university entrance exams will be able to enroll in their preferred medical programs due to intense competition and limited capacity.

As AZE.US reports, State Examination Center Chairperson Maleyka Abbaszade said during a social media livestream that 1,212 Group IV applicants scored above 600 points this year.

Most are seeking admission to medical programs, but the number of available places will not be sufficient for everyone, she warned.

The strongest competition is expected for General Medicine. Abbaszade said its cutoff score could rise by approximately 20 points compared with last year.

Azerbaijan Medical University also offers programs including Public Health, Pharmacy and Dentistry.

According to the State Examination Center’s forecast:

  • Programs with last year’s cutoff scores above 500 could see an increase of about 10 points;
  • Cutoff scores between 400 and 500 are expected to remain broadly unchanged;
  • Programs previously requiring between 300 and 400 points could see an increase of about 10 points;
  • Cutoff scores in the 200–300 range are likely to remain close to last year’s levels.

A total of 5,419 Group IV applicants scored more than 150 points. Abbaszade estimated that only around 300 would remain without admission if candidates make a careful and realistic selection of programs.

However, applicants with scores of 400 or even 500 points could still fail to secure a place if they apply exclusively to medical programs. She advised candidates to also consider agriculture-related fields.

“They will probably remain outside the competition because the number of places is limited,” Abbaszade said.
