Azerbaijan is seeing a public debate over a common promotional practice used by some beaches, clubs and entertainment venues: free entry or special services for women, while men are required to pay.

The issue has sparked discussion on social media, with some users arguing that such policies are unfair and may amount to gender-based discrimination.

Speaking to 247press.media, lawyer Shamil Pashayev said that applying different pricing policies to women and men could be viewed as discrimination.

According to him, Azerbaijan’s Constitution guarantees equality before the law and prohibits discrimination based on gender. Pashayev said citizens who believe their rights have been violated may appeal to the courts or relevant state institutions.

Marketing specialist Mushvig Isgandarov offered another view, saying that free entry for women is often used as a customer-attraction strategy by entertainment venues.

He said such campaigns are designed to increase the number of female visitors, which can then raise overall attendance. However, Isgandarov noted that these promotions are not always effective and that modern businesses increasingly depend on service quality and properly targeted marketing strategies.

In practice, the logic behind such campaigns is simple: when a venue has more female customers, it often attracts more men, who come because of that atmosphere and spend money there.
