Azerbaijan’s Supreme Court has rejected a lawsuit filed on behalf of TurAz LLC by former lawmaker Ilham Aliyev, the son-in-law of former Presidential Administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev.

The Commercial Chamber upheld the decisions of lower courts, bringing one phase of a years-long legal dispute between Aliyev and Shabran businessman Mansur Ibrahimov to an end.

The lawsuit sought to invalidate transactions involving the sale of land plots. Ibrahimov, the Shabran municipality and the district’s notary office were named as defendants.

TurAz was established to manage fruit orchards in Azerbaijan’s Shabran district. Ibrahimov says he founded the company and alleges that Aliyev later took control of the business and its orchards unlawfully while Mehdiyev held office.

According to Ibrahimov, previous court rulings recognized his rights to the company, but their enforcement has been delayed by repeated legal challenges. He accuses Aliyev of filing similar claims in different forms, with each new case allegedly postponing the return of the property for at least another year.

Ibrahimov also claims that the orchards generate more than 10 million manats, or approximately $5.9 million, in annual revenue and that their produce is exported abroad. This figure is the businessman’s estimate and was not established by the latest court ruling.

Despite the rejection of the latest lawsuit, Ibrahimov says the underlying dispute remains unresolved. He is seeking full enforcement of earlier court decisions and the physical return of the company and orchards.

The businessman has made similar allegations concerning Dostluq-MK LLC, which he established in 2011 after receiving a 1.2 million manat loan, equivalent to about $706,000, from Azerbaijan’s National Fund for Entrepreneurship Support. The company later acquired nearly 160 hectares of land.

Ibrahimov claims the company was formally sold to Aliyev for 5,000 manats, or about $2,940, but that no payment was actually made. These claims remain part of the broader property dispute./Musavat
