The relocation of residents from several emergency-condition dormitory buildings in Ganja has sparked complaints, with some families saying the apartments offered to them do not match their current living conditions.
The process has already begun for residents of a dormitory located at the intersection of Uzeyir Hajibeyli and Farhad Aliyev streets. They are being moved into a newly built residential complex, but part of the relocation has been met with resistance.
The main concern raised by residents is that families who currently occupy two-room living spaces are being offered one-room apartments in the new building. Residents with larger families say such apartments are not suitable for them.
“We are asking for what belongs to us. Our documents show two rooms. Now they are offering us only one,” one resident said.
Some residents also claim they were not included in the relocation list at all. According to them, officials said they were not at home during the registration process.
“I have lived here for 23 years. All the neighbors are being relocated, but I have been left here alone. They tell me to go and live where I am registered, but I do not have another suitable place to live,” one woman said.
The Ganja City Executive Authority said a new residential complex has been built at the intersection of Kimyachilar Street and Nizami Ganjavi Avenue. According to the authority, residents of dormitories that are in emergency condition and have reached the end of their service life are being relocated there.
Officials said the residents are being provided with temporary housing under a social rent agreement. The relocation applies to people who have a legal right to use rooms in the dormitories.
Housing distribution is being carried out based on legal status, family composition and current regulatory requirements, the authority said.
The Executive Authority also noted that people found to own a private home, house or other property suitable for living are not included in this category and are not provided with apartments.
Officials said individual complaints are still being reviewed, and residents will be informed of the final results through official channels.
